Digital Underwriting Lead
We are currently looking for a Digital Underwriting Lead to work with us on a full-time basis in one of our regional UK office locations (Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Kent, Glasgow etc.), reporting into the Head of Underwriting Operations.
We would welcome applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences for this role. The ideal candidate will have experience in digital strategy, a track record of delivering digital products, and a strong desire to grow in this field.
As the Digital Underwriting Lead, you will be aligned to a portfolio of customers/brokers and be responsible for proactively developing our SME digital book of business. You will deliver excellent broker/customer experience and technical underwriting support in a fast-paced multi demand channel environment.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Munich Re Specialty, Global Markets UK Leadership team to develop and implement the Digital Underwriting Strategy for both new products and existing lines of business
- Lead and mentor a team of digital underwriters, providing guidance on underwriting best practices, decision-making, and digital tools.
- Drive the professional development of team members through training, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment to improve team performance.
- Utilize digital platforms and tools to assess and underwrite various types of insurance policies (e.g., Cargo, Engineering, Terrorism).
- Create and deliver our on-line strategy creating an aligned team supporting all Lines of Business.
- Analyse data from multiple sources (e.g., customer information, claims history, third-party data) to evaluate the risk of underwriting policies.
- Make informed decisions regarding policy approvals, pricing, and terms based on digital risk assessment models.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as risk management, claims, and product development, to ensure that underwriting guidelines and procedures are aligned with the company’s goals.
- Monitor and update underwriting policies to reflect changing market conditions, new data sources, and emerging trends in the industry.
- Communicate with agents, brokers, and clients to clarify underwriting requirements and resolve any issues during the underwriting process.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all digital underwriting activities.
- Stay current on regulatory changes, industry trends, and best practices in digital underwriting.
- Help drive forward good Conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders.
- Understand all appropriate lines of escalation and the responsibilities of the Product Conduct Risk Strategy Group (PCRSG), Underwriting & Claims Sub Committee (UCSC), ExCo and Board for Conduct Risk.
Knowledge and Skills
- Proven experience in underwriting
- Strong understanding of digital underwriting platforms, data analytics, and risk assessment.
- Leadership experience in managing teams and driving performance.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance standards.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with technical teams and stakeholders.
