Purpose:

The Application Programming Interface (Senior) Product Owner to drive the success of our API-based digital distribution offering as part of our digital transformation program. This role will involve collaborating with various business partners, IT, Marketing, and Sales teams to build upon the vision, business model, and roadmap. The Senior Product Owner will also be responsible for managing the execution of this strategy and ensuring the achievement of key business metrics, including profitable revenue growth.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Vision and Strategy: Work closely with stakeholders to define and communicate a compelling vision and strategy for the API-based digital distribution offering. Identify market trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape to inform the product roadmap.
  • Roadmap Planning: Develop and maintain a comprehensive roadmap for the digital distribution channel, considering business goals, technical feasibility, and customer expectations. Prioritize features and initiatives based on value, market demand, and resource availability.
  • Technical Expertise: Possess a solid technical background, particularly in APIs, integrations, and software development processes. Understand the intricacies of working with different business partners to ensure seamless integration and interoperability between systems.
  • Business Model Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and refine the business model for the digital distribution offering. Identify revenue opportunities, pricing strategies, and partnership models that align with company objectives and market dynamics.
  • Business Development: Identify and pursue revenue opportunities, pricing strategies, and partnership models that align with company objectives and market dynamics to maximize profitable revenue growth of this digital distribution channel
  • Execution Management: Oversee the end-to-end product development lifecycle, from concept to launch. Collaborate with IT teams to ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions, while managing scope, budget, and resources effectively.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a bridge between various internal teams, including IT, Marketing, Sales, and other business partners. Facilitate productive discussions, gather feedback, and incorporate insights to shape the product strategy and roadmap.
  • Change Management: Serve as a Change Lead using American Modern’s Change Management Framework. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external business partners for launch and Go-To-Market activities.
  • Performance Tracking: Define and track key performance metrics for the digital distribution channel. Regularly analyze data, generate actionable insights, and provide reports to management. Take ownership of the channel's performance and drive initiatives to optimize results.
  • Market and Competitive Analysis: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technological advancements, and competitive offerings in the insurance and digital distribution space. Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify opportunities for growth, differentiation and continuous improvement.
  • Customer Focus: Understand American Modern’s distribution partner needs, pain points, and preferences related to digital distribution in the insurance industry. Use customer insights to drive product improvements and enhance the overall user experience.
  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the product team. Encourage experimentation, iterate on ideas, and implement best practices to enhance product delivery and business outcomes.

 

Required Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, or a related field. MBA or equivalent is a plus.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a Product Owner or Product Manager, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Experience in Sales, with a proven track record of driving revenue growth and achieving sales targets.
  • Strong technical background with in-depth knowledge of and experience with APIs, integrations, and software development processes. Deep understanding of Open API standards and experience in industry-standard API platforms like Microsoft Azure APIM, Mulesoft, etc.
  • Deep understanding of digital distribution channels and their technical requirements.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to analyze market trends, identify opportunities, and translate them into actionable product strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience in defining product vision, roadmap, and driving successful product launches.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to effectively work with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience in defining and tracking key performance metrics to drive business outcomes.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to derive insights from data to inform decision-making.
  • Agile/Scrum methodology experience is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
