American Modern Insurance Group is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager (Hybrid Role) to join our team! You will be involved in all aspects of accounting to one of our fastest growing segments, specialty clients program business, starting with the initial onboarding of new accounts all the way through to preparation and analysis of financial results. The Accounting Manager will also be involved in projects related to onboarding new business, building systems that will transform and automate workflows within the program business workflows, as well as in other Accounting department related initiatives and projects associated with the financial close process, controls, and results analytics as assigned.
The Accounting Manager directly supervises a team of 2-3 staff accountants and will be responsible for indirectly managing others on the accounting team whose work supports the specialty clients program business. This role reports to our AVP, Financial Reporting.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Manage performance, training and development of staff to ensure timely and complete delivery of financial reporting deadlines.
- Coordinate general accounting tasks to ensure adequate training, appropriate process documentation and completion of work by scheduled deadlines.
- Optimize efficiencies within the workflows and the reporting of financial results for the Specialty Clients division.
- Responsible for managing the financial impacts relating to key program business partners by understanding key data points and explaining key financial indicators within the data points analyzed.
- Monitor, prepare and/or review more complex account reconciliations and gets involved in ad hoc analyses, accounting research, financial statement preparation and review, and other accounting initiatives and projects as needed.
- Maintain and monitor compliance with end-to-end processes and internal controls.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience.
- Advanced degree and/or CPA or CFA, or insurance certification.
- Previous leadership experience managing a direct report and/or teams.
- Five to seven years of financial experience within business and operational teams, understanding and analyzing financial results of key segments or program business.
- Strong GAAP, Statutory, and/or IFRS accounting knowledge and on the job experience with recording complex ledger transactions, developing and/or reviewing complex reconciliations, and understanding end to end sub ledger functions across various transaction streams including cash, receivables, payables, premiums, reinsurance, investments, and losses.
