Purpose:

AVP of Product  is responsible for the strategy, direction, and performance of a specific product line within a pod-based Product Management model. This role drives profitable growth, ensures market competitiveness, and leads a cross-functional team from concept through execution. The AVP of Product translates corporate strategy into actionable product plans and works closely with the VP of Product Management and VP of Product Operations to ensure alignment and operational excellence.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

    • Lead the development and execution of product strategy and roadmap for the assigned line of business (e.g., Homeowners, Dwelling, Manufactured Home, etc.)
    • Analyze performance trends, market dynamics, and customer insights to guide strategic decisions
    • Manage product P&L, including rate adequacy, retention, and growth performance
    • Monitor emerging risks and regulatory shifts to adjust strategy as needed
    • Develop or enhance coverage forms and endorsements to support profitability and innovation
    • Support go-to-market planning and alignment with enterprise priorities
    • Lead a multidisciplinary product pod, ensuring coordination across Product Managers, Analysts, and Filing/Configuration support
    • Drive clarity on priorities, deliverables, and timelines; foster accountability and ownership within the team
    • Collaborate closely with Actuarial, Underwriting, Claims, Compliance, Marketing, and IT to implement product changes and initiatives
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for business decisions and performance updates for the line of business
    • Apply product operations standards and best practices to ensure consistency and efficiency
    • Oversee timely and accurate delivery of regulatory filings, rule changes, and system updates
    • Support quality audits and maintain compliance with all relevant state and regulatory requirements
    • Contribute to the evolution of SOPs, tools, and workflows through feedback and insight
    • Mentor junior pod members and support professional growth and cross-training
    • Partner with VP – Product Management to address workforce planning and succession needs
    • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture aligned with enterprise values

 

 

 

Required Technical Skills:

    •  Experience in Property & Casualty insurance, with demonstrated success in product management, underwriting, or actuarial roles
    • Deep domain expertise in the assigned line(s) of business (e.g., Homeowners, Dwelling, Manufactured Home, etc.)
    • Strong analytical abilities, including a solid understanding of advanced mathematics, statistics, and performance metrics
    • Proven ability to lead, innovate, and make data-driven decisions in support of strategic goals
    • Experience with pricing segmentation, state regulations, reinsurance, policy contract language, underwriting, and product management fundamentals
    • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with analytical and visualization tools is a plus
    • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization

 

Skills / Knowledge / Experience:

Provide overall department leadership and strategic planning. 

 

Education, Certifications & Designations:

Required: Bachelor’s Degree Business, Finance, Math, Statistics or similar field

Preferred: MBA or similar advanced degree, CPCU and/or FCAS, AINS
